Design of enzyme-mediated controlled release systems based on silica mesoporous supports capped with ester-glycol groups

2012

[EN] An ethylene glycol-capped hybrid material for the controlled release of molecules in the presence of esterase enzyme has been prepared. The final organic-inorganic hybrid solid S1 was synthesized by a two-step procedure. In the first step, the pores of an inorganic MCM-41 support (in the form of nanoparticles) were loaded with [Ru(bipy) 3]Cl 2 complex, and then, in the second step, the pore outlets were functionalized with ester glycol moieties that acted as molecular caps. In the absence of an enzyme, release of the complex from aqueous suspensions of S1 at pH 8.0 is inhibited due to the steric hindrance imposed by the bulky ester glycol moieties. Upon addition of esterase enzyme, del…

Reversible Colorimetric Probes for Mercury Sensing

2005

The selectivity and sensitivity of two colorimetric sensors based on the ruthenium complexes N719 [bis(2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate)ruthenium(II) bis(tetrabutylammonium) bis(thiocyanate)] and N749 [(2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine-4,4',4' '-tricarboxylate)ruthenium(II) tris(tetrabutylammonium) tris(isothiocyanate)] are described. It was found that mercury ions coordinate reversibly to the sulfur atom of the dyes' NCS groups. This interaction induces a color change in the dyes at submicromolar concentrations of mercury. Furthermore, the color change of these dyes is selective for mercury(II) when compared with other ions such as lead(II), cadmium(II), zinc(II), or iron(II). The detection limit…

Photocleavable core cross-linked polymeric micelles of polypept(o)ides and ruthenium(II) complexes

2021

Core cross-linking of polymeric micelles has been demonstrated to contribute to enhanced stability that can improve the therapeutic efficacy. Photochemistry has the potential to provide spatial resolution and on-demand drug release. In this study, light-sensitive polypyridyl-ruthenium(II) complexes were combined with polypept(o)ides for photocleavable core cross-linked polymeric micelles. Block copolymers of polysarcosine-block-poly(glutamic acid) were synthesized by ring-opening N-carboxyanhydride polymerization and modified with aromatic nitrile-groups on the glutamic acid side chain. The modified copolymers self-assembled into micelles and were cross-linked by cis-diaquabis(2,2'-bipyridi…

Poly(alkylidenamines) dendrimers as scaffolds for the preparation of low-generation ruthenium based metallodendrimers

2011

The aim of this article is to highlight the use of nitrile-functionalized poly(alkylidenamines) dendrimers as building blocks for the preparation of low-generation ruthenium based cationic metallodendrimers having in view potential biomedical applications. Air-stable poly(alkylidenamines) nitrile dendrimers, peripherally functionalized with the ruthenium moieties [Ru(η5-C5H5)(PPh3)2]+ or [RuCl(dppe)2]+, have been prepared, characterized and are being studied for their anticancer activity. The followed strategy is based on the biological advantages associated with low-generation dendrimers, the known activity of ruthenium compounds as anticancer drugs and the stability of these dendrimers at…

Enantiomer Separation of Tris(2,2′-bipyridine)ruthenium(II): Interaction of a D3-Symmetric Cation with a C2-Symmetric Anion

2015

A compound widely used in the separation of the enantiomers of Δ,Λ-[Ru(bipy)3]2+ (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) and originally described as “a curious lattice compound” with the formula Δ-[Ru(bipy)3]3[Sb2(R,R-tart)2]2I2·18H2O (tart = tetradeprotonated, carboxyl and hydroxyl, tartaric acid anion) has been crystallographically characterized as this species with a slightly higher degree of hydration (19.5H2O). The crystal lattice has a layered structure in which sheets containing Δ-[Ru(bipy)3]2+ cations and iodide anions alternate with those containing [Sb2(R,R-tart)2]2– anions and water. The role of the iodide ions, which lie in pseudohexagonal cavities formed by the array of three inequivalent but…
